Akari Academy: Whispers in the Dark

Part 1: The Welcoming Party

The visions started the day that Leanne Black entered the Akari Academy, a private school nestled on some island, which specialized in Technical studies. It was a TAG, Talented and Gifted School for those who could afford the tuition. The study body consisted of grades 4 through 12, although the high school age kids far out numbered the elementary and middle school children. Leanne was supposed to graduate high school this year so she wasn't quite sure why she received the Akari Academy brochure in her mailbox during the spring of her Junior Year. What surprised her even more was the fact that there was no way her family could afford to even send Leanne to this school and yet, here she was. Her parents were told that there would be no bill for any of Leanne's expenses during her Senior Year at Akari, which most likely meant that Leanne received some full scholarship that the school was giving out. Either way, her parents were delighted by the turn of events and low and behold, poor Leanne was forced to leave behind any and everyone she knew and fly out to this place.

“I should be happy… this is supposed to be a top rated school with some high tech classes. I might even get a chance to get an internship with a Special Effects company… but who knows.” Leanne exited the cab with her dad's old duffel bag in hand. Her gaze scanned across the landscape before her, there was a road leading to an ornate cast iron gate with a red brick wall on each side. Beyond the gate was the largest set of buildings that she had ever seen! She took a deep breath and closed her eyes before she walked over to the gate, sliding the strap of the duffel bag over her shoulder. “Ok, now to let them know I'm here. Hmm.” She looked around the gate for some sort of intercom or bell or something and she couldn't find one.

She sighed and leaned against the wall beside the gate, trying to figure out what to do next. “Think Anna think! There has to be a way in. Maybe the gate is actually unlocked?” She winced a bit, that answer seemed so obvious and she just now realized it. And so, she walked back over to the gate and pushed on it, hoping that it would open.

The gate opened with a soft creak and footsteps could be heard on the other side of the wall. Leanne walked through the gate looking around and then she saw what must have been the perfect couple smiling at her from beside the wall. The man was tall with ear-length wavy dark brown hair and dark eyes. He was wearing a black polo t-shirt that revealed a muscular build to his arms, dusty blue jeans and a pair of black sneakers. Leanne figured him to be eighteen, nineteen years old at the most. The features of the woman were the opposite of her partner; she had long light blonde hair that framed a fine and delicate face with the brightest blue eyes that Leanne had ever seen. Leanne could almost swear that the woman's eyes were glowing. The woman was shorter than the man and had a very petite and delicate frame adorned with a light blue ankle length halter dress.

The man spoke with such a gentle voice that Leanne was caught off guard. “Hi there. You must be Leanne Black. Allow me to introduce myself and my partner here.” He paused and indicated the woman beside him. “My name is Deacon Weiss and this is my younger sister, Lena Weiss. We are members of the student government and we're going to be giving you a tour around campus and get you settled in. If you have any questions please feel free to ask us.” Deacon smiled brightly at Leanne once he was done speaking, and Leanne felt her heart skip a beat seeing that smile. Lena cleared her throat and Leanne flushed red and forced herself to look away from Deacon.

“It's nice to meet you, Mr. Deacon and Ms. Lena. Please feel free to call me Anna. To tell the truth, I would have sworn that you two were a couple and not brother and sister a moment ago.” Leanne offered a sheepish smile. Lena smirked slightly and Deacon winced slightly.

“First things first, my dear brother, seems to have forgotten that we have to get you checked in at the front office first, Anna. He'll show you the way, I have to go do something real quick but I'll meet back up with you two a little later.” Lena's words were spoken loudly and they were almost a shout, the forcefulness of her voice scared Anna. Deacon raised an eyebrow at his sister but did not question it.

“I'll see you later Sis.” Deacon looked to Anna for a moment and lifted her duffel bag off her shoulder and put it on his own. “I guess it's just the two of us for now Anna, please come with me.” He shot Lena one last parting glance before he walked with Anna towards the main building.
